LOST 015 | Follow The Leader - Episode Recap

LOST 015 | Follow The Leader - Episode Recap

There were no off island flashbacks this week so I will break up the recap between the two groups, 1977 group (Sawyer's gang) and 2007 group (Locke and Friends).

1977
Our episode tonight started off where episode 5.14, The Variable, left off. We saw Daniel get shot by his mother again, but this time our viewpoint was from that of Kate and Jack hiding out in the corn field. As Daniel is shot Kate and Jack prepare to flee but are stopped by a middle aged Charles Widmore on horseback. Charles knocks Jack silly and brings the two captives into the camp. As they head into camp we see Eloise reading through Faraday's journal and she seems to be piecing things together with her son being Daniel. Eloise directs the guard to take the captives into her tent as Charles begins his attempt to make sense of why the Dharma Initiative is waging war with the Others. Eloise, who is beginning to understand the situation tells him that these people "are not from the Dharma Initiative." Jack and Kate are taken to Eloise's tent where they finally have some time to make sense of Faraday's Relativistic Physics. Jack is explains that he desires to follow Faraday's plan and wipe out the last three years of misery also bringing back all the people that had died on the island up to this point (this lends some truth to my previous post on Faraday's Theory of Relativity). It's obvious that Kate and Jack are not on the same page at this point. Eloise Hawking returns to the tent and asks Jack why Daniel needed the bomb. She explains her memory of when Daniel helped Eloise get rid of the bomb (episode 5.03, Jughead). Jack goes on to explain that they are from the future and tells her that if she helps them do what is written in Daniel's journal that "none of this would have happened." Eloise decides that she will take them to the bomb and drops a bomb on them (pun intended). She tells them that the bomb is located under the baracks of the Dharma Initiative.

The scene flashes away and we catch up with Sawyer and Juliet as Radzinsky (whose first name we now know is Stuart) is "interrogating Sawyer trying to find out where Kate went when they took Ben into the woods. Radzinsky and Horrace begin to have a power struggle as Radzinksy seems to realize the seriousness that this situation has brought upon the Dharma Initiative. Horrace backs off and lets Radzinsky work his magic. A bloodied and beaten Sawyer continues to hold out and bite his tongue. Stuart belts Sawyer a few more times and Juliet pleads for him to stop with the torture. Phil steps up to the plate claiming that he can make Sawyer talk. He struts his stuff and turns to slug Juliet. At this point, Mitch another security guard comes down with more info on another person that may be working with Sawyer and Juliet, Hugo Reyes. The scene cuts to Hugo as he is packing a bag of food. He sneaks off into the woods and Dr. Chang begins to follow him. Once Hugo meets up with Jin and Miles Dr. Chang comes out of the woods and asks the three guys if they are truly from the future. Hurley claims that this is ridiculous and Chang begins to quiz Hugo. "What year are you born? Who is the president?" Hurley gets confused and cracks. Dr. Chang confronts Miles and asks him if he is truly his son. They then begin to talk about Faraday's warning to Dr. Chang. To this point Faraday has been correct about everything and Chang decides that it's time to start evacuating people via the sub.

Back to the Others' camp. Eloise tells Richard to untie the prisoners as she is taking them to the bomb. Richard tells Jack and Kate that Eloise and Charles are "romantically involved." Into the jungle they go. Eloise brings them to a pond in the middle of the jungle and tells Jack and Kate that they have to swim under the rocks to get to the tunnels. Kate decides that enough is enough and attempts to walk off. Eloise's stooge pulls a gun on her and BANG, BANG! Sayid emerges from the bushes with a gun, he has shot Eloise's henchman. The two sides split temporarily and figure out their next plan. Sayid learns that Kate and Sawyer saved young Ben Linus and begins to join in the scepticism of Jack's plan. Jack tells them that this is the reason that the three of them were brought back to 1977 (again one of my theories coming to fruition, man that feels good). Kate dips and heads back to Dharmaville. Speaking of Dharmaville, down in the security station, Radzinsky and the Dharma folks are still trying to get answers out of Sawyer. Dr. Chang comes down the stairs and tells them that they need to "get all non-essential personal off the island." Radzinsky stands up to Chang and tells him that they will keep drilling. Sawyer jumps in and tells them that Chang is right and if they put him and Juliet on the sub that he will tell them anything that they want to know. Sawyer begins to draw a map to the exact location of the hostiles. The scene cuts to Jin, Miles, and Hurley who are Where the DI is loading the women and children into the submarine. Miles witnesses his father telling his mother to take young Miles and leave the island. Juliet and Sawyer roll in and board the sub saying "good riddends" to the island. Sawyer explains his plans to get rich by buying stock in Microsoft. Just as they are getting ready to set off for the mainland Phil jumps in and says that they have one more person that they are sending off the island. Dun, Dun, Dun...Kate rolls down the ladder and the sub takes off under the sea. Back into the jungle we go. Richard, Jack, Eloise, and Sayid emerge from the water and into "the tunnels" to find Jughead. After a short walk they come to a larger cavernous openning in the tunnels where Eloise unveils Jughead. Overwhelmed they stare at it and Eloise says, "Well, now what?"

2007
Ironically the biggest bomb was dropped during the present time in 2007 with Ben and Locke. But let's start from the beginning. We first see Richard in his tent building a model boat when a woman rolls in and says, "Richard! He's here." After three years away from his people John Locke has returned to lead the Others. Richard notes that there is something different about John. John tells him, "I have a purpose now." Sun and Ben roll in and Sun asks Ben if Richard was on the island in 1977. Sun rushes in and asks Richard is he recognizes Hurley, Kate, and Jack from their Dharma photo. Richard tells her that he recognizes them very well because he watched them die. Locke readies the troops to go on a secret mission and heads into the jungle with Richard and Ben. Walking through the dark now the three musketeers come upon the crashed plane that the Nigerian drug smugglers crash landed on the island. Lock prompts Richard on the situation at hand and sends him towards the plane to heal a mans leg. A man stumbles out of the jungle and lies near the plane, Richard heads into action. That man turns out to be John Locke. We remember this scene from the time that the island was jumping time and Ethan Shot John in the leg, but this time it is from Richard's point of view. The injured version of John Lock disappears into thin air and they head back towards camp.

Back at camp Locke gathers all of the Others together and announces to them that he is going to go find Jacob, because "if there is a man telling us what to do, [he] wants to know who he is." Locke invites everybody to join him on this journey to find Jacob. Richard tells Ben that he is "starting to think that John Locke is going to be trouble." Ben responds by saying, "Now you know why I tried to kill him." BOOM! Commercial. A few minutes Locke and the Others are heading down the beach and that all familiar "on a mission" music is playing in the background. Ben and John begin to small talk and Ben tells him of Richard's concerns. Here comes the shock...John announces to Ben that he has no interest in being reunited with his people. He tells Ben that they are going to Jacob so that John can kill him, leaving Ben stunned! Thud, End of show.

This sets us up for what should be an epic season finale next week!
